It’s fair to say The Guvnor’s been on a sticky patch of late – no hiding from that. A few near misses, a couple of hard-luck stories, and the winners just not falling our way. But here’s the thing: when you’ve been in the racing game for over 40 years, you know better than most that the wheel always turns.

Since we kicked this off back in 2022, the Guvnor’s tips have pulled in a cumulative profit of

+£12,720 to £10 unit stakes. That’s not smoke and mirrors – that’s cold, hard, long-term graft. So while the current form book might look a bit rough around the edges, remember the old adage: form is temporary, class is permanent.

With four decades of experience, an ear close to the ground, and respect from trainers, jockeys, and punters alike, The Guvnor isn’t one to be written off.

Unusually for today, he’s lining up not one, but two confident selections, hoping for an across the card double for the bang in-form William Haggas

4:35pm Yarmouth – Sea Force (Nap)

Richard Hughes’ top weight Whip Cracker looked unlucky at Glorious Goodwood, denied by just a head when short of room late on. He’s a fair sort, but not the most reliable, with only one juvenile win from 13 runs.

There’s also interest in Green Triangle, making his first start for the Crisfords, but The Guvnor is siding firmly with SEA FORCE, representing the hot Haggas yard.

This son of Sea The Stars has been knocking on the door all season – beaten a neck by a 104-rated rival at Doncaster in April, breaking his maiden at Nottingham in June, and running three solid races in defeat since. Most notably, he finished just over a length down in a 17-runner Heritage Handicap at York’s Ebor meeting.

With today’s extra furlong sure to suit, and carrying a workable mark of 89, Sea Force has all the credentials to land this Class 3 nine-furlong handicap.

4:45pm Sandown – Sir William

The going could play a big role here. Dancing Tiger proved himself on testing ground at Goodwood earlier this month, but The Guvnor suspects the form might flatter him given how few handled the conditions that day.

The nod instead goes to SIR WILLIAM, a gelded son of Night Of Thunder who looks tailor-made for today’s test. With Tom Marquand at Yarmouth, Cieren Fallon takes over, and while this three-year-old has only one win from eleven starts, the soft ground should bring out the best in him.

Last time at Newbury he looked the likely winner but was just edged out – unlucky not to get his head in front. Drawn wide today, the hope is that the field tacks across to the stands’ side rail, which would give him the ideal run.

This could finally be the day he puts a frustrating sequence to bed.

The Guvnor’s Recommendations: 1.5 points win: Sea Force (Nap) 4.35 Yarmouth – Best Price 5/2 with Bet 365

1.5 points win: Sir William 4.45 Sandown - Best Price 5/2 with Bet 365

1 point EW double the above 2 selections

Total Stake - 5 points

The Guvnor’s eye for value has never wavered – and with his track record, you’d be brave to bet against him bouncing back sooner rather than later. 18+ Always Bet Responsibly
