Star Attraction at Nottingham

Cecilia Star looks a filly on the up for Michael Bell, who sends her to Nottingham today over a mile and six furlongs — a trip that should really bring out the best in this daughter of Sea The Stars. She’s lightly raced, having had just three starts, and already shown glimpses of real promise. She made a winning debut on the all-weather at Newcastle before finding Listed company at Newbury a touch too hot, then got back on track with a fine third on her handicap debut at Goodwood, pulling well clear of the rest behind the winner Ghaiyya.

Bell’s team has been in good form this season with a solid 15% strike rate, and the trainer knows how to develop a staying type — remember Motivator in the Derby. Kieran Shoemark takes the ride, and he’s been in great nick himself with several big-race wins to his name this year. The step up in trip looks ideal, and off a workable mark of 79, there should be plenty more improvement to come. Around 5/1 looks a fair price for a progressive filly who’s bred to relish this test.
